Why a crane is often the safest and cheapest option
People assume crane work is the expensive option. On the right tree it's the opposite. A crane removal can turn a two-day, high-risk climbing job with a hundred separate rigged pieces into a half-day job with eight picks — and every one of those picks is lifted away from the house instead of swung past it.
The math changes in favor of a crane when:
- The tree is decayed, hollow, or storm-damaged and can't be trusted to hold a climber or a rigging load
- It's directly over a roof, pool, sunroom, patio or expensive landscaping
- It's a large-diameter hardwood where the pieces are simply too heavy to rig conventionally
- Backyard access is blocked and the only route in is over the house
- Downtime matters — a commercial lot, an apartment complex, a school
How a crane removal actually runs
Setup is most of the job. We site the crane where the outriggers get solid bearing, plate it if the ground is soft, and calculate every pick against the load chart before anything leaves the ground. A climber or bucket operator sets the choker, the piece is cut, and the crane takes the weight — the section never free-falls and never swings.
Sections come down to a landing zone away from the structure, get processed there, and go into the chipper or onto the truck. Your roof never carries a load and your yard sees a fraction of the traffic.

Do you need to get the crane into my backyard?
Usually not — that's the point. We can often set up in the street or driveway and reach over the house.
Will the crane damage my driveway?
Outriggers concentrate a lot of load, so we plate and mat under them. On a residential drive that's standard practice, not an upsell.
Is crane work more expensive?
Not always. Against a difficult climbing removal it's frequently competitive or cheaper, because it's dramatically faster. We'll price it both ways and tell you which is better.
