Tree Risk Assessment
Every tree that comes down in a storm was telling somebody it was going to. A risk assessment is just reading the signs on purpose, before the wind does it for you.
What we look at
Risk is a function of three things: how likely the tree is to fail, how likely it is to hit something if it does, and how bad that would be. A hollow tree in the back of a fifteen-acre field is not a risk. The same tree over a driveway where kids wait for the bus is an emergency.
On every tree we look at the root flare and surrounding soil, the trunk, the union structure, the canopy and the site conditions. Buried root flares, fungal conks, cavities, cracks, included bark, dead leaders, previous topping, recent grade changes and construction damage all move the number.
What you get
A written report, not a verbal opinion. Each tree gets an ID, a species, a condition rating, a description of defects, a risk rating and a recommendation with a timeframe — remove now, prune this dormant season, cable and re-inspect in 12 months, monitor, no action.
For an HOA board or a property manager, that document does double duty: it's the work plan and it's the evidence that you were paying attention.
When to get one
- Before storm season, especially if you've got mature trees near the house
- After any significant wind, ice or tornado event, even if nothing obviously broke
- After construction, trenching, grading or a driveway pour anywhere near a big tree
- When you buy a property with mature trees you know nothing about
- Annually, for any commercial property with public foot traffic under trees

Is the assessment free?
A walk-through and verbal findings with a quote for any recommended work: free. A formal written report with tree-by-tree documentation is a paid deliverable — that's a real inspection with real hours in it.
Can you tell if a tree is hollow from outside?
Often, from the external signs. Where it matters we can go further with sounding and probing. No inspection makes a tree a certainty — it makes the odds knowable.
My neighbor's tree looks dangerous. What can I do?
Notify them in writing and keep a copy. In Tennessee, once an owner has been made aware of a hazardous tree, their liability picture changes considerably. A written third-party assessment is strong support.
